What Is Apple AirTag?
Apple AirTag is a small circular tag designed to be attached to valuable items like car keys and wallets to allow for easy tracking of these items.
Unveiled by Apple in April 2021, AirTag promises to reunite its users with their lost, stolen, or misplaced possessions.
The Apple AirTag is small and button-shaped with a glossy white front and a silver backing. The front can be personalized with an engraving. There are provisions for engraving each tag with up to four letters and emoji characters.
However, note that Apple imposes restrictions on the nature of phrases or emojis you can engrave on these tags. For instance, you can’t engrave curse words or potentially offensive emojis.
How Does AirTag Work?
Apple AirTag is compatible with iOS and macOS devices. The tag works by means of Bluetooth and there’s no major set-up required. All you have to do is pair the tag with your device and then attach it to the item you wish to track. Note that the tags come alone and you’ll need to purchase additional accessories to attach them to an item.
To begin tracking a lost or misplaced item, you’ll need to turn Bluetooth on. An included U1 chip lets you see the exact location of an item even if its last known location cannot be determined.
AirTag also comes with built-in speakers that play a sound, allowing you to locate the device quicker. You can play the sound either through the Find My app or by asking Siri.
But what if AirTag becomes separated from you or is out of your Bluetooth’s range?
Well, there’s no need to fret.
Apple AirTags are designed to tap into the global Find My app, a vast network of Apple devices that can pick up Bluetooth signals from lost items. The tags are managed under the “Items” tab in the Find My network.
Once integrated with your Apple device, any Find My user can locate the tag and relay its location to you. Just be sure to include your contact information in the app to allow other users to find you with ease.
Other AirTag Features
Apple AirTag features IP67 water- and dust-resistance. The device can stay submerged for up to one meter (3.3 feet) for 30 minutes without getting damaged. And the fact that it’s dust-resistance eliminates the need for frequent wipe-down, which might affect its durability and aesthetic appeal.
AirTag allows you to track your valuable items anonymously. The device implements an end-to-end encryption that keeps your location data private.
3. Ease of Use
Apple AirTag is easy to sync with your iPhone device. It’s also easy to attach to items like car keys and wallets. Plus, it comes with a removable cover for easy replacing of the CR2032 battery.
Apple AirTag is a smart invention designed to help you keep in touch with your valuable items. The tag attaches to wallets, car keys, and even jackets and leads you up to these items in the event you lose or misplace them. Although it pairs with the Find My network, AirTag users can track their valuables anonymously, thanks to an end-to-end encryption that keeps your location private.
